Kohl’s announced in January 2025 that the Plainfield store located at 11860 S. Rte 59 would be shutting down, and by March 29th the doors were closed for good. It left the Shorewood location as the closest location.
This was the nearest store for many local shoppers, and for years it served as a convenient stop for clothing, shoes, and home items. By late February, during the final weeks of operation, the store had been through a significant part of liquidation, and sections of the store would be sectioned off.
My visit was made during those last weeks to document the store before it was gone. Photos from that trip were made into a YouTube video to capture how the Plainfield Kohl’s looked in its final days
With the closure, Plainfield lost its closest Kohl’s, leaving nearby towns as the only remaining options for shoppers. The closure prompted many to head to Aurora and Shorewood.
